This „special“ fountain is located in a lane to the west. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart would have been happy about more light back then, when he lived in a house near this fountain in Linz.

After the first documentary mention in 799 as „Linze“, the settlement grew in the area of today’s old town under the protection of the castle. Linz became an important regional market town, and in 1240 it was granted town charter. In 1497 Linz was granted the right to build a bridge over the Danube by the Roman-German King and later Emperor Maximilian I. It was only the third bridge over the Danube. It was only the third Danube bridge in Austria after Vienna and Krems. During the Protestant domination, among other things, the Landhaus, one of the main sights of the old quarter, was built. The Renaissance building is still the seat of the Upper Austrian provincial government today. During a great fire in 1800, many historic buildings were lost, yet the Old Town of Linz remains one of the most beautiful parts of the city centre, with some Renaissance town houses whose facades have been preserved, as well as many older houses with a Baroqueised face. Our beautiful old town of Linz has experienced a lot and if it could speak, we would learn many interesting things.
